Here is the now infamous “Maples”!

Last Friday, myself, another mom and 3 boys, all seniors at Pope HS, were on a road trip from Marietta to Tullahoma, TN for two Varsity soccer games.

The GPS “lady” knew something we did not because she directed us off the interstate to the exact location to where Maples “waited.”

You know how “she does”!
“Take exit in 200 yards, turn right on so and so street, go 2.3 miles and slight left on so and so street, continue 3.5 miles, turn left…..”

We were getting more and more into the country and I was thinking to myself, “Wow! this high school is really, really in the boonies!!”

I seriously began to question when the last turn directed was to turn left onto a dirt road that looked like an entrance to a plantation.

I asked the boys to check their phones for directions and sure enough we were 50 miles off. However, 30 seconds later we see “Maples”.

My son Pablo jumped out of the car and instantaneously declared,”This is my adopted son, Maples.” So into the opened cooler Maples went and into the car beside Pablo to the utter excitement of three 18 year olds (team mates of Pablo’s) and the two moms as well!
We continued on this  road which brought us back to the exact exact place where “Ms. GPS” took us on the path for Maples!

“What just happened here, I wondered? Was that for real!?”

Well, this turtle was just what my son needed to brighten his dampened spirits, frustrations after torn ligaments, a cast and an adenoid surgury this soccer season.

As we finally did arrive to the fields for the game, the boys ran out with their new mascot, Maples. Everyone gathered around. Even the parents got into it…that night at the team dinner, one grandfather, ordered a to go dish full of lettuce for Maples!

And Pablo scored a goal, his first this season!!

Turtle medicine is about moving forward with slow, steady steps- we will get there! It also reminds us that home is where the heart is!! This tells me that within is where I will get any and all answers from a Heart Connection where our true happiness lies.

Pablo decided to return Maples to the wild in the creek behind our house. We are were a little sad to see him go AND grateful for the many gifts that he brought to us!

Sometimes we make think we are actually lost…..things are not always as they appear!

Today is week three in the month of March dedicated to creating abundance in our lives in honor of Saint Patrick Day and that pot of gold over the rainbow!

It is really is about feeling good, isn’t it?

This week I met with one of my “Connecting with Your Joy!” coaching clients.

She is going thru some big life changes and wasn’t feeling so good as it were.

She began talking about her father who had passed a few years ago,and I felt her connecting with her Joy. It was awesome to see! Her eyes began to sparkle along side the tears that flowed.

She had felt his presence during this very difficult time in her life.

I asked her if she could start a practice of intentionally connecting with her father and other angels for love and guidance.

When she returned the following week for her session, I asked her how she had found this exercise of connecting.

She took out a little journal and began to read the guidance that had come to her when she asked for help.

5 angels “spoke to her”- relatives of hers that had passed: one said I am here to provide laughter for you, another come forth for compassion, another for humility, another fun, another love!

WOW, this gave me chills up and down my spine!

All we have to do is ask!! So when you are feeling alone or just not feeling good, ASK your angels for help!

You never know who will come through to help-over the rainbow bringing your pot of gold! We are All connected. We are ALL loved!

Saint Patty’s Day is this month,

and I want to dedicate this month to lightening up about money(the Pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!)

Yes, I said money!

Last weekend, I dedicated the whole weekend to be with my “Heart and Soul centered” biz coach, Elizabeth Locey (Click to learn more Elizabeth!)

who had what she calls a “Clarity Blast Weekend for Business Breakthroughs.”

She is fabulous, fun and has great experiences to share.

She shared the tool of laughter which we know in our hearts works; it is just fantastic to be reminded.

She used the quote that we all have heard,”Laughing all the way to the bank.”

I have used this quote several times recently in reference to Justin Beiber and a few year ago to Hannah Montana,

when my children would make fun of these uber-successful entertainers.

But this time, it had a twist- it is me or you who is doing the laughing.

Now my ears are open! I love to laugh and I love the concept of laughing in the same sentence as money!

We take money sooooo seriously, don’t we? At least I am realizing how heavy the energy is that I hold around money!
Baba Muktananda said once that spiritual gurus and enlightened ones would sit and laugh for seemly no reason.

I know that when I am laughing; I feel lighter and it lifts me up from my sometimes intense nature-haha(en-lightened!)
So what I am going to put into practice this week is this: before I begin my work day, I am going to laugh.

How am I going to do this? Well, one way that Elizabeth suggested is to have a go to file on funny YouTube videos.

Do you know of any good ones, I hear you asking!?

Well “believe you, me,” I do!

Just happened to make one last summer that my sister, Donna Brooks and I just got put up on YouTube a couple of weeks ago.

Got to give a shout out to my wonderful Mom, Iris Brooks     (here with Angel). It is her birthday today! And while I am here, my Dad, JD Brooks’ birthday is Feb. 13th. You are an amazing man; you have inspired many! (With some of his grandchild and children)

Happy Valentine’s Day to you this week! What a beautiful day to connect with our own hearts; and       while you are there you will feel the connection to ALL. We are One! It is an amazing feeling to be right there in the center of who you REALLY are. I will try with words to explain how this feels to me. It is a place of ALLNESS and NOTHINGNESS. There are no wants; everything is complete including me!How do I get there, to my heart; Well, sometimes by stopping, getting conscious of my breath, aware of the moment. It may take me a few deep breaths to feel the Oneness. Other times, Spirit does it for me by putti

ng amazing miracles in my life like when this 8 month old baby, who I did not know, insisted on me holding her. She held on to both sides of my shirt, put her sweet head into my heart where she stayed without moving for 5 minutes while her grandmother looked on in shock. I was in total bliss, tears flowing down my face. This little baby connected me to my heart and to ALL! I wish I had a picture of this amazing child that gave me the gift of my heart, of ME!
Be open to receiving the miracle of connecting with your own heart. It may come from a child, a pet, a beautiful sunset, a chill giving alleluia from Sonia Osio*, or an amazing soft presence from Tamara Barhar**Big Heart Hugs,

It is a trailer for a movie called, “May I be Frank?” I connect and am definitely uplifted by what I see. This is a keeper, and I would like to show it sometime soon on Movie Night for WECAN!  I also read the comments that are listed and much to my surprise is a comment from me that I had made three months ago! How quickly, I forget!

Now I am starting to remember how this all evolved. Let me recount the story: I was watching an absolutely hilarious, gut busting parody on Youtube called, “SH** New Age Women Say!” from a group called Elevate. I recommend it highly. I laughed so hard that as my friend and co-facilitator Tamara Barhar http://www.meetup.com/Mandala-Painting-and-Healing-Art-Group/ says,”We just added several years to our lives!” Love it!

Anyway, so from that video, I subscribed to Elevate’s Youtube account and received the trailer of, “May I be Frank?” which is about the power of gratitude among other things. “Elevate” asked if we would share in the comments what we were grateful.

Frankly, I am so grateful to be conscious of the magnificence of our SOULS! We are blessed by one another; we are here to love ourselves and others. We are here to give AND to receive.

There are many faces to joy says Rumi and I agree. I found joy in my tears this week; in the sweet embrace of my friends and family, in the doctor’s eyes that performed the surgery, in the compassion of the nurses as I cried when they rolled my son into the operating room.

And there is absolute joy in the gratitude! Can’t wait to see this movie, “Can I be Frank?” I love you all!

Tools that worked for me when I was in overwhelm:

1. Pause and take a breather- which simply means to remove myself from my current surrounding even if this means excusing myself to the restroom.

2. Call or meet with someone in your support network! This can be a like- minded friend or family member or an official member of your support group. Express your feelings and ask for support and guidance,

3. When my energy has shifted from a fear/ego place to a calm, connected, higher self place, I can ask for Inner guidance while assessing everything currently on my plate. Which activities really bring me JOY today, which ones did I add out of some type of fear? Fear based activities make for more fear. Ask yourself as I did- do I want more fear?!?! Hec no!!

4. Look over the past days or weeks and truthfully ask myself – have I used the tools to connect with Source. Connecting my mind, body Spirit
is crucial for me to be in my JOY! ( come next week for more on simple tools for connecting!)
I can make a decision to use my tools now and every day!

5. Call in Spirit to bless this beautiful new space that you have created for your life, bless your family, friends, and also for happiness and Joy for all beings!

6. Know that as human beings, we have the tendency to become human doings when left to our EGO. And know that these tools above work for me to get back to “being” in the Joy and Happiness!

So I realized the overwhelm when I chose to overreact a little, (no a lot- truth again!) to my 16 year old missing his ride AGAIN! Yes yelling was a part of this interaction- unfortunately!

Luckily for me, and this I suggest for everyone reading this, I have a great support network. I had 4 women coming over to my house just an hour after the not so pretty encounter with my son. So after first trying to conceal my emotions, I was able to let them out to a group of like minded women. They did not judge me in any way, they listened and shared their experiences. What I found is that I am not the only parent who has “lost it” with their teenager! Thank goodness, I am not alone here!

After this meeting, I had an appt. with our minister to talk about a large project that he had asked me to head. Well, who would believe that I would actually be grateful for the encounter with my son? I am grateful for it showed me something very important about why I reacted instead of responded. When I have too much on my plate and I do not take the time to get connected with my Source, then I have a tendency to over-commit! When I over commit, I over react.
So, I had to remove several items off my plate- for now! No big church wide project for me at this point. Later, in a week, a month, a year, I can add these back if I choose.
Also, I can apologize for my part (the loosing it) of the interaction with my son. Consequences are different from punishment. Yelling at my son is a punishment; making him responsible getting an alternate ride is a consequence. Lessons learned at least for today!
